The Locals was an exhibition of work by RISD alumni living and working in Rhode Island put on by the school's Alumni Association in February 2012.

A​NCHOR offers a unique venue for your next event.

ANCHOR has been host to many design-based and creative events in Providence, RI, such as the Better World by Design conference networking night, Johnson and Wales' art exhibition, and AIGA's Best of New England gallery show. Our gallery is a perfect space for exhibits and opening receptions, unique corporate networking events, and lectures and presentations.

 

Mission

Our mission is to promote arts, design, and local businesses and organizations by providing affordable exhibition and event space. The Gallery is roughly 1060 square feet with about 80 linear feet of wall space for displaying artwork. The Gallery accommodates up to 180 people.

 

Hours

The regular Gallery hours for viewing exhibitions are Mondays 3pm-9pm, Fridays 9am-3pm, Saturdays 12noon-6pm and during the week by appointment. Events take place on weekday evenings or weekends; dates and times must be approved by ANCHOR.

 

How It Works

It is the responsibility of the individual/organization to set up, run, and take down exhibitions and events. Use of our two bathrooms, kitchenette, and parking lot is also provided. It is the responsibility of the individual/organization to make all arrangements for catering, table linens, bar service (a certified server must be hired), additional lighting, music and DJ equipment, and ticket sales. The individual/ organization must provide all helpers necessary to facilitate set up and clean up. Permission must be granted when moving objects that are our property in our space, when using our tools, or when making any permanent changes to the space.

 

We have the following materials available for your use:

  • 55+ mismatched chairs and stools

  • Crates that can be used as podiums or benches

  • 1 screen in the Gallery

  • WiFi 

  • 3-5 tables

  • small speakers (non-professional)

  • spackle for filling small holes

  • paint and brushes for covering marks

  • ladders

  • cleaning supplies

Application and Fees

 

To be considered to hold an event/exhibit at 42 Rice Street, you must submit the form below. We will review your application and inform you if it has been accepted within 5 business days. Ideally, all events/exhibitions will be scheduled and approved 2 months prior to the event date. All accepted events/exhibition applicants are required to attend a follow up meeting at 42 Rice Street to discuss the exhibition/event details and logistics. ANCHOR reserves the right to decline exhibitions/events whose applications are not filled out completely, are not appropriate for our space as deemed by ANCHOR, or conflict with dates of other exhibits/events.

 

Security Deposit

Once your application has been approved, your refundable security deposit of $250.00 is due within 10 business days. Your deposit solidifies your reservation in our calendar. If the deposit is not received within 10 business days, the reservation becomes available again and may be given to another party. Checks should be made payable to “ANCHOR LLC” and can be mailed to ANCHOR Providence, Attn: Sarah Garrison, 42 Rice Street, Providence, RI 02907.

 

The space is evaluated for damage directly following the event. You will be mailed a check refunding your deposit within 10 business days after the event. The individual/organization is responsible for all damages caused by them and/or their guests. These costs, including materials and labor incurred by the damage, are deducted from the deposit. The individual/organization will be billed any additional costs if they exceed the $250 deposit to cover the damage.

 

Venue Fee

There is a $32/hour fee for the use of our space. This fee applies to the setup, run time, and takedown/cleanup of an event. If your total event time exceeds 10 hours, there is a flat day rate of $300. The fee is in place to cover our cost of providing a staff member to supervise the event. An invoice will be sent to the individual/organization running the event once the application has been approved and the event times confirmed. Payment is due within 15 days of receiving the invoice and must be paid prior to the event.

 

Venue rental fees are waived for ANCHOR tenants!

 
PVD Hoot
open mic night

Providence Hoot is a free open mic night that occurs on a monthly basis at ANCHOR. All are welcome, from professional musicians to shower-singers.
